Imagine the [Nigerian] Blogosphere;

Personal blogs like mine, Music Blogs, Food Blogs, Techie Blogs, Literary Blogs, Natural hair Blogs, Linda Ikeji’s Blog (LIB) and Linda Ikeji Wannabes.

Linda Ikeji is my idol! I love how she instigates a lot of stuff without setting herself up. She throws her readers in a limbo, gets views, gets clicks and ultimately gets paid. Brilliant!

Today is not about Linda Ikeji or her minions, I’m on about Linda Ikeji Wannabes and ‘New Generation News/Gossip Bloggers’. I deleted my twitter because someway, somehow, they managed to invade my timeline with all their twitter feed. I dunno how that did it but they grew like weeds with thorns. So many and so annoying.

All of them, obviously hungry for views, obviously hungry for clicks on ads pasted all over their blogs and these blogs without content.
They go about manipulating headlines to lure you into reading drab articles, irrelevant news and all what not.

There was this particular one that broke the camel’s back; I wish I could name this particular blog. Sha, the post was titled “So So and So’s ordeal with a Lagos Big Babe” gleefully, I added the link to my Pocket (Read It Later) thinking that I’ve found correct gist. Only for me to open the post and be very disappointed because the article and the title were like two opposing poles! No correlation!

I was appalled!

I begged The Lord to hold me! He did!

I wonder what happened to writing legit articles, publicize without constituting a nuisance because flooding people’s Timelines only makes them disgusted and repels them from your website. It doesn’t make any sense to draw people to your website under false headings. It’s dishonest and annoying!

Asides the lies, the news they report? So not news worthy! You’ll see stuff like;
-Wizkid’s Girlfriend’s Eyelash Falls off. [Pics]
-Check out Tiwa Savage’s New Nail Polish. [Photos]
– Banky W misplaces signature hat. [Video]
-Toke Makinwa Switches Up Accent + More [audio. mP4. MP3]

And in emergency situations when there are news flashes and stuff, if you visit these blogs at the same time, they would’ve published the same story, No jara or Fisi. THE EXACT SAME THING. Not one comma will be missing. Copy and Paste Journalism I call it. They don’t even verify sources, look into how true the stories are they just go on to post the same thing like a blind population where there is even no man with one eye to reign over them.

No iota of journalism.

It’s a sorry case and it saddens me..

It’s such a shame how people now pride themselves as Journalists/News bloggers because Internet is cheap, to own an internet accessible device is cheap, wordpress and blogspot are free, to own a .com is relatively cheaper, ASUU went on strike for too long and the Unemployment rate is really high.

So we see, not everybody deserves access to the internet and to blog is not by force!

My first post should be up in a few hours.

Thanks for dropping by.

Not like I’m planning to change or anything;
One morning, I felt as if the @TheNakedConvos handle was throwing subs at me. The person behind the handle obviously woke up to read a horribly written post or better-still; slept with one in mind.

I begun felling guilty. I dunno why because I’m not on anybody’s payroll or something.

Anywho, I have decided to cut the crap and take my blogging more seriously.
I’ve started going around with my ‘blogging’ book to put down my every thought. As the handle advised.

I’ve always been able to accept constructive criticism; Someone once told me that my punctuation was horrible, I took a look at my posts and agreed. I worked on it. My punctuation may not be a perfect 10 at the moment but its better.
I believe in self help.
I believe google is my friend.
And we learn everyday so there’s no need to feel too big to take to corrections.
No one is above mistakes that’s why we’re human.

Lol. I was on a roll there.

So I want to start by embarking on my 30 make that 40 day challenge (just because) which was the original reason I bought this ‘blogging book’. Since February 2012 o. I still haven’t gotten around to writing shingbain! Lazy ‘ol me.

Asides that, everything I write; Good, bad, below par, awful, ‘uncompleteable’, will be posted. Nobody is awarding marks so heck yeah!

Something I wrote a few months back. The agony of the block 😦 …

Writing is something I’ve always done for fun. I express myself really well when I put pen to paper. I involved myself in many writing activities. Press club, Secretary to different societies and to think I wrote a story book even though it never saw the light of day.

I’ve never considered my writing to be so awesome or even worthy of any praises. You can imagine my surprise when I started blogging. For fun too. I always had a personal blog that I just typed and stored on my computer because I thought why in the world will anyone want to read what I have in my head. I went ahead to post my thoughts online anyways and the responses I got were beyond overwhelming.

I know many writers whom I envy for their writing skill – an awesome talent. Some of them praise me for my work too but I beg to differ. When some of them stop writing for a while and leave me wanting to read more of their work, I hit them up and ask them the reason behind the break in transmission. Writer’s block was always the culprit.

I always thought Writer’s block was a myth. Why will somebody have a skill that has to go on and off? It just doesn’t add up. You can say things like “I’m out of ideas” or “I’ve just been plain lazy” or “I don’t have time” or “I’ve run out of ink” not “Writer’s block”

Writer’s block doesn’t exist.

Or So I thought.

Not Until It hit me.

I just couldn’t get my thoughts together. I had so many ideas dancing in my head but I just couldn’t organise the ideas in my head, put them down and transform them into awesome pieces. The ultimate struggle; Getting ideas from my head to paper.

Even when I was able to put something down, it always turned out drab and below par. Maybe I didn’t have writers block. I was just trying to keep up with expectation. Still am.

I suffered a bout of depression and according to what I looked up on the internet, depression is a good period in time to be a writer because you have many thoughts and ideas.

Truly; I had many thoughts and ideas going and coming but I just couldn’t write the down. The block is REAL.

What did I do about it?
I met my friends who had gone through the same process and one particular friend was really keen on helping me get through it. We had exercises and games which helped me a great deal but the effect didn’t last long and now its back. Like a relapsing fever.

Many great writers in history have gone through writer’s block while some were able to come out of it and write some more great books/pieces, Some others? Not so much.

I just hope this Writer’s block, as real as it can get, does not deprive me of my favorite past time.
